One of a trio of fine dining establishements blong tothe celebrated Richard Phillips. Although they have a reputatuion of being expensive, it is possible to have a 3-course lunch for £15 and Tuesday to Friday there's a 3 couse'market menu Tuesday to riida for just twenty quid. The 7 course tasting menu with wines is a more pricey £78. Aylesford is reputed to be the oldest village in england and founded by a viking invader who became the first King of Kent, after whom tjhe restaurant is named. Head ched Daniel Hatton produces some emplory modern French disheslargely using locally sourced produce. The owners have spent a few bob, creating a number of different dining areas; the Japanese Room is dramatcally decedent, with subtle red lighting and black laquered furniture and breass maquetry. The smaller Crystal Room has an open gas fire centrepiece. There also a couple of well appointed private dining room. But the Hengsit is about the food and was a finalist in the Kent Restaaurant Awards, beaten only by its older sibling Thackeray's in Tonbridge Wells. Well worth a visit if your're in the Maidstone area. Actually it's worth making the journey even if you're not
