Kent Cycles

On aquiring a second hand mountain bike, I needed to have the gears looked at as they were not functioning as the should. On looking through the local listings, I came across Kent Cycles, based in Tonbridge Rd, Maidstone. I phoned them and asked if they could have a look at my bike. A very professional and friendly gentleman answered the phone and said "bring the bike up and I'll take a look at it for you. It was 14:00 on a Saturday afternoon and I thought it would only take an hour or two. Unfortunately I had not considered that my bike would have been the only bike that was going to be looked at or worked on that afternoon! I arrived shortly after 14:15, completely out of breath and red-faced(It was the first time I had ridden a bike in 15 YEARS!!!) The gentleman looked it over and informed me that I'd need 2 new inner gear cables as the old ones had seized. Also he adjusted and lubricated the gears,sprockets,brakes,linkages,crank - basically anything that needed doing that would bring the bike up to a safe standard for road use. He informed me that the cost for this work would be £25.00 - which I found very reasonable. Unfortunately he said that he could have it ready on the following Tues. I said to him that I thought it might be ready 1 - 2 hours later(hence my earlier ignorance). He then replied that he'll see what he could do, and if I had'nt received a phone call by 17:00, I'd know that he could'nt get it finished that day. After returning home the phone went at 16:00. It was Kent Cycles. I was delighted to hear the news that my bike was ready and hurried up to the shop.(I only live 1.2 miles away, so the walk did'nt take long.) He ran through the work that he'd done and we had a nice chat about bikes in the "old days". I was so impressed with the speed and good customer service that I also bought a new bike combination lock(which he fitted for me at no extra cost) I would strongly recommend visiting Kent Cycles to anyone who needs spare parts for their bikes, servicing,or if its just for a chat and advice. I won't hesitate to return there for my biking needs in the future. Phil Carey
